Such a treat to experience the 2023 Sauvignon Gris. Sauvignon Gris, a pinky-hued mutation of the Sauvignon Blanc grape, is scarce in South Africa. Cape Point Vineyards is among the first to cultivate and bottle this unique variety.

The wine impressed with aromas of white peach, elderflower, nectarine, and lavender. It even smelled delicious despite my nose being stuffed up from allergies—now that’s a testament to its power!

A soft entry led to a lush mid-palate of passionfruit and pear, with a silky texture and crisp, refined finish.

Crafted from Cinsault grapes picked on a sweltering summer morning in the Swartland, Lubanzi Rose Bubbles is sunshine captured in a bottle. The Lubanzi mission is clear: to share the magnetism of South Africa—its culture, people, and land—while ensuring the communities at the heart of its wine industry are uplifted. Lubanzi partners with The Pebbles Project, a nonprofit providing health and education resources to families living and working on the country’s wine farms.

Fondly nicknamed the “Michelle Obama MCC,” Black Elephant Vinters’ Method Cap Classique embodies elegance, beauty, and sophistication—just like its namesake. This MCC is a classic blend of 75% Chardonnay and 25% Pinot Noir, balancing fruit-driven elegance with a touch of complexity.

In the Beyerskloof Pinotage, smaller berries from old bush vines yield concentrated flavors, lovely black fruit, delicate cedar oak aromas, a long finish. Just delightful!

Mahalia’s Syrah, a lighter, more delicate take on this typically robust varietal, reflects her unique style and unwavering dedication to craftsmanship.

What makes this wine particularly fascinating is its origin. Unlike the Pinot Noir on Sandstone Soils, this expression comes from the heavier clay soils of the Elgin Valley. This difference in terroir results in berries that carry a deeper, more brooding character. The complexity is palpable—think rich black cherry notes intertwined with an intense earthiness. It’s like enjoying a picnic on the forest floor, where every sip reveals a new layer of flavor.

The 2022 Klein Goederust has an elegant balance of stone fruit, citrus aromas and approachable complexity. A Chardonnay to try for those who say they don’t like Chardonnay!

The 2023 Wolf & Woman Pinotage is a delightful, bright, fruity and spicy take on this varietal.

The 2023 Say Less Chenin Blanc offers a crisp, clean taste profile with bright notes of citrus and tropical fruits. It’s well-balanced and refreshing, making it an excellent choice for pairing with vegetables or fish.

The 2023 Creation Sauvignon Blanc has an elegant balance of tropical fruit, refreshing acidity and minerality.

The 2023 Champagne Gonet-Médeville is a delicious, well-crafted champagne boasting notes of brioche, baked apple, and bliss!

The Longridge Chenin Blanc is refreshing and tropical with some real oomph to it. Plus, Longridge practices biodynamic farming, focusing on sustainable practices and ecological balance. Nothing makes my crunchy granola wino heart happier.

The Roseblood Rosé was the last wine I had in Martha’s Vineyard this summer, and I think it tasted that much sweeter and felt even more special.
